Dr. Marie Bountrogianni joins FVC National Advisory Board

(May 29, 2008) Fair Vote Canada (FVC) announced today the appointment of Dr. Marie Bountrogianni to the FVC National Advisory Board.

Fair Vote Canada is a national multi-partisan organization promoting equal representation for every citizen through proportional voting systems.

Dr. Bountrogianni is currently President and CEO of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) Board of Governors and is the former Ontario Minister for Democratic Renewal. She was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 1999. In October 2003, she was named Minister of Children’s Services and Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. In June 2005 she became Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister for Democratic Renewal.

Dr. Bountrogianni joins 33 other prominent Canadians in the pursuit of electoral reform including Lincoln Alexander, Lloyd Axworthy, Rick Anderson, Ed Broadbent, Tom Kent, Rafe Mair, Sylvia Ostry, Judy Rebick, Hugh Segal, David Suzuki, and Lois Wilson. The late Pierre Berton and the late Claude Ryan also served on the FVC Advisory Board.

Fair Vote Canada’s 7th annual meeting will take place at Ryerson University, Rogers Communications Centre, Room C-204, on Saturday, May 31, from 8:30am-5:15pm. Among the featured speakers are Andrew Coyne, National Editor, Maclean’s; Martha Hall Findlay, MP, and former Liberal Party leadership contender; Olivia Chow, NDP MP; George Thomson, former chair, Ontario Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform; and representatives from electoral reform organizations in the UK and USA.
